The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) has highlighted a significant decision by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi to waive health insurance fines for foreigners who have violated residency laws but are now eligible for status amendment. This decision reflects the UAE’s government ongoing commitment to upholding humanitarian principles and legal frameworks.
The initiative supports the UAE residents in rectifying their legal status while ensuring access to essential services. It is part of the broader efforts to encourage compliance with regulations, promote respect for the country’s law, and maintain the integrity of the legal system.
Director-General of the ICP, Lieutenant General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, explained that the fine exemption is designed to enhance the success of the initiative, which aims to assist individuals in regularizing their residency status in the UAE. By waiving health insurance fines, the UAE is encouraging those in violation to take the necessary steps toward compliance, while also reaffirming the country’s commitment to providing quality healthcare for all residents.
Lieutenant General Al Khaili further emphasized that individuals benefiting from the status amendment, whether they choose to remain in the UAE or leave, can take advantage of the fine waiver. However, those wishing to stay must secure health insurance to meet regulatory requirements.
Executive Director of the Healthcare Financing Providers Sector at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, Bina Al Awani, also noted the importance of this waiver in supporting the department’s mission to ensure that all residents have access to healthcare. She encouraged those eligible to enrol in health insurance to fully benefit from the initiative.
This waiver is a demonstration of the UAE’s goal to protect the wellbeing of all its residents.
